What is there more to say? It's Napa Valley. The most recognized wine producing in really all of the world, and even people who don't drink wine or know much about wine, know that Napa Valley produces wine. Napa Valley which is situated inside of Napa County is divided into 16 appellations(please see map above) and it's reputation is built on the grape Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux led varieties. These outstanding wines are produced by large, well-stablished wineries as well as by numerous small boutique wineries that have achieved "cult" status with demanding sky-high prices, such as one of my all time favorites that ever comes out of Napa, and its known as Axios. I have opened up 2006's from this producer and they were drinking wonderfully. I also have a 2016 that is still waiting to be opened in the cellar currently.
Grapes have grown since the 1830s and the first winery in the valley was established in 1861 and it was Charles Krug, which is now owned by Peter Mondavi, another huge name in Napa. There are now more than 400 wineries in Napa Valley alone. I could go on and on about Napa, and even talk about the Mondavi family, but it would probably be a book in itself. Please check out the review I did on the Sterling Vineyards from Napa that I think is drinking great right now and has just that right amount of bottle age!
