Muscadet Sèvre et Maine + VIDEO Link

Updated: Jul 29, 2023

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine is one of my favorite whites to have during the summertime, I love them by themselves, I also like them with food as well! Especially when it comes to any type of shellfish. Oysters, Clams, Mussels, Shrimp, Lobster, Scallops. An overall winner in my book when it comes to wines and food pairings.

In the Loire Valley, take four imaginary lines and where you see the words below the map, like the picture above, and drop them right after the names, is how you can divide the Loire Valley. It's four regions in one big region! Muscadet Sèvre et Maine is focused in the Pays Nantais region on the left side closest to the Atlantic Ocean, and get's a ton of influence from it and can affect how the wine tastes or smells. It can almost have the wine bring a seashell component to the wine. It's very fascinating!

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine solely focuses on white wine and specifically the Melon de Bourgogne grape, or just known as Melon("mah-loan"). The grape came over from Burgundy a long time ago where it originated from and isn't grown there anymore.

About 80 percent of all Muscadet wine is made within the appellation as the topography here is ideally suited to the viticulture of Melon de Bourgogne. Alluvial soil types have led to an abundance of potassium, magnesium and calcium deposits, providing the vines with the minerals they require for optimal growth.

I hope if you haven't seeked out a Muscadet Sèvre et Maine before that you do and if you like shellfish, or really any type of fish that you pair the wine with it. It's an awesome pairing. If none of those fit your needs, a fresh salad, chicken or pork can suffice as well.
